Thresholds control and lasing characteristics in dye doped nematic liquid crystals

Spectral characteristics and lasing efficiency of nematic liquid crystals (NLC) doped with polymethine dyes have been investigated. The lasing threshold control in such mate¬rials by variation of the NLC director position relative to orientation of pumping emission linear polarization were obtained. The basis reason of the low lasing efficiency of doped NLC was shown to be the light scattering by the fluctuation of molecular director of the liquid crystal. The rotation of the polarization in such a system following mechanical rotation of the cell with liquid crystal solution is demonstrated experimentally
